Today's Vision

In today’s society, trying to become a citizen is almost as difficult as it was in early 19th century. Back in the 19th century if you weren’t a white man, who owned property, you weren’t considered a citizen stated in the early constitution. In present time, you must be 18 years of age, not have a criminal record, cannot be out of the United States for a certain amount of time in a five-year span, if any of these applied to an individual their application wouldn’t even be considered. Also because of President Trumps recent outbreak with his immigration policy, it is becoming harder for immigrants to migrate to the United States. His policies include construction of the southern wall, raise visa services, and removal of the DACA program. The 14th amendment has been questioned by President Trump along with other republicans, and what terms it should be considered on. Such as one must BOTH be born in United States AND be subject to the jurisdiction thereof. Since there are two explicit requirements, they both cannot be met by simply being born on U.S. soil stated by Steve King, and also states that Supreme Court has never held that the children of illegal immigrants born in the United States are automatically citizens. The Dred Scott relates to todays citizenship problems truthfully because of the government, and unfair treatment. During the Dred Scott decision, Chief Justice Taney stated that no black man can sue in a US court simply because he wasn't a citizen, only property. In today's world Donald Trump over shadows the immigrants only judging them by the bad figures. Such as one speech he gave "When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending the best. They're sending people that have lots of problems and they're bringing those problems. They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime. They're rapists and some, I assume, are good people, but I speak to border guards and they're telling us what we're getting," but never speaks about the good immigrants that come over, or the hard working trying to start a new life. Also Trump wants to shut down any muslim trying to seek refuge in the United States simply because of their stereotype. In today's society it hasn't change with citizenship. Refugees are still seeking for approval and trying their best to continue doing whats best for them, and their families without being shut out by the government, and the law.
